SHRI AMARNATH JI YATRA 2025
Shri Amarnathj Ji Yatra 2025: A Commitment to Sustainability
This year, the revered Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2025 is being organized from July 03, 2025, to August 09, 2025. Shri Amarnathji Yatra is one of India’s most famous pilgrimage destinations and is organized every year by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. The shrine holds immense significance in Hindu culture and is considered one of the holiest shrines. The main cave, situated at a height of 12,756 ft from sea level, remains covered with snow for most of the year, opening only for a brief period in the summer.
However, increased human activity during the Yatra leads to a significant rise in waste generation, particularly plastic waste. Scientists have consistently expressed concerns over the accumulation of plastic and other debris in the mountainous area, as it severely damages local vegetation and invaluable medicinal herbs. Without a robust and scientific solid waste management system, waste piles up in the mountain valleys, posing a grave hazard to our ecology and increasing the risk of erosion and landslides.

IEC Activities - Objective
The objective is to promote responsible and sustainable practices among pilgrims participating in the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025. This will be accomplished through a series of targeted initiatives implemented along the entire pilgrimage route and at designated base camps. These efforts will include engaging audio-visual content, interactive sessions, web-based application, interactive kiosks, nukkad nataks, widespread distribution of IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials to effectively raise awareness and encourage eco-conscious behavior among yatris.
